  • What does Canada Gold Beef do?
    • Canada Gold Beef is a consumer driven, customer focused, marketing organization
    • It brings your beef products to various markets around the world, including Europe
  • What are the benefits in participating in Canada Gold Beef’s program?
    • Competitive pricing on feeder cattle
    • Premiums for hormone free cattle
    • Information provided back on your cattle’s feedlot performance and carcass grading
    • Achieve government requirements for age and source verification and traceability
    • Direct involvement with your supply chain partners
  • What are the requirements to enrol in the CGB program?
    • Type of cattle:
      • British or British-cross cattle, with a preference for Black Angus cattle
    • Characteristics of cattle:
      • dehorned
      • males must be castrated
      • heifers must be open i.e. not pregnant, and never had a calf
    • Sales Group size:
      • minimum of 80 animals
    • Management practices:
      • Cattle must be age and source verified
        • Calves/yearlings must be age verified in CCIA’s database
        • Premises must be registered with CCIA
      • The producer must follow CGB’s program requirements for cow-calf producers
      • Feeder cattle must be hormone free and certified under CFIA’s EU program. Requirements include, but are not limited to the following:
        • Cattle must never have been given hormones or beta-agonist during their life time
        • Cattle must have been born and raised on the herd of origin and never co-mingled with implanted cattle
        • Cattle must be identified with CFIA’s hormone free ear-tag
  • Do I get a premium at the time of sale of my feeder cattle?
    • CGB is currently offering a premium of $30/head above the sale price of your cattle.
  • How can I enrol in the program?
    • Contact Kerry Hyatt at the Canada Gold Beef Office (403-732-5918) for program information
    • Submit the CGB application form to the CGB office (www.canadagoldbeef.ca)
    • Contact Craig Paskal at 403-317-5820 for sales information and cattle pricing
    • Contact your local veterinarian to help you complete CGB’s requirements for cow-calf producers and to help you certify your calves under CFIA’s program for hormone free cattle
  • What does my veterinarian have to do to help me participate in CGB?
    • Your veterinarian must become registered with CGB. Please have them complete the vet enrolment form on CGB’s website (www.canadagoldbeef.ca.)
    • CGB will send your veterinarian a training presentation and an exam which they must complete to show that they understand CGB’s program requirements
    • Your veterinarian must contact their local District CFIA office to become approved to certify hormone free cattle for the EU
    • Once your veterinarian has completed CGB’s registration requirements and CFIA’s hormone free program registration requirements, they will be able to help you enrol in CGB and meet both CGB ‘s and CFIA requirements for hormone free cattle
    • Your veterinarian will help you complete CGB’s Cow Calf Self Assessment Guide to show you are fulfilling CGB’s program requirements and CFIA’s hormone free program requirements
  • Can I retain ownership of my feeder cattle?
    • No, Canada Gold Beef retains 100% ownership for all cattle
